Claude vs Perplexity

Claude to think; Perplexity to find out. They are complementary, not competing.

Claude is the stronger reasoning tool. Its large context window means an entire report, transcript, or set of files fits in one conversation, its prose quality is a clear step above the field, and it reads unfamiliar code better than anything else in general use. Where it earns trust is calibration — it flags ambiguity rather than confidently filling gaps.

Perplexity is search that answers. Every claim carries a clickable citation, so verifying a fact takes a second instead of a fresh search, and it is current by design in a way a general assistant is not. For "what is true right now, and who says so", it is the better instrument.

How to choose. If your material is already in front of you and the work is analysis, drafting, or code, use Claude. If you need to discover current information and cite it, use Perplexity. Serious researchers subscribe to both and never confuse their jobs — and spot-check Perplexity's citations, which occasionally do not support the exact sentence attached to them.
