Buyer’s guide

Where the automation runs matters more than the connector count

Every tool here advertises hundreds of integrations. The real differences are structural: whether it runs on someone else's cloud or yours, whether it charges per task or per workflow, and whether it lives inside a platform you already run.

The four questions that decide it

  • Per-task or per-workflow pricing? A workflow with ten steps costs ten tasks on some platforms and one execution on others. At volume this is the single biggest cost lever.
  • Can you self-host? Self-hosting removes per-task billing and keeps data in your infrastructure, at the cost of running the thing yourself.
  • Where does it sit? A WordPress-native automation tool reaches plugin data that an external connector cannot see without an API.
  • What happens when it breaks? Error handling, retries, and execution logs are what separate an automation you trust from one you check manually anyway.

Start with the expensive manual task

The best first automation is whichever repetitive job currently costs the most human minutes each week. Building clever workflows nobody needed is the standard way to waste a subscription.
