Buyer’s guide

Two categories wearing one name

Link management tools sit inside your site, cloak and organise outbound affiliate links, catch broken and out-of-stock ones, and report which links earn. Affiliate programme software is the other side of the transaction — it recruits, tracks, and pays partners who promote your product. Buying the wrong one is the most common mistake here.

The four questions that decide it

  • Which side of the deal are you on? Publisher or merchant. This decides the shortlist before anything else.
  • Do you need revenue attribution? Knowing which post earns is the difference between guessing and optimising. It usually requires connecting affiliate network APIs.
  • How are broken links handled? Expired programmes and out-of-stock products quietly leak revenue for months. Automatic detection pays for the tool.
  • What is the disclosure and compliance story? Automatic disclosure blocks and nofollow handling keep you on the right side of both regulators and search guidelines.

A note on cloaking

Link cloaking is legitimate and useful for management and reporting. It is not a way to hide affiliate relationships — disclosure is a legal requirement in most markets and an editorial obligation regardless.
