How to use Canva on your mobile (1/10)
Published by Canva on YouTube · loads only when you press play
Canva is the default design tool for creators, and the free plan is the most generous in any category we cover.
Where it wins. The template library is enormous and, critically, sized correctly for every platform — you are not resizing a square graphic for a story. Brand Kit locks fonts, colours, and logos so a team's output stays consistent without policing. Magic Resize reformats a design across every required size in one click, which is the single biggest time-saver for anyone publishing to multiple channels. Collaboration is real-time and the free tier covers most solo creator work indefinitely.
Where it falls short. It is not a professional design tool: precise typography, colour management, and print production work will frustrate anyone with real design training. Files are locked to the platform — there is no meaningful path to an editable file another tool can open. Template ubiquity means designs can look visibly Canva-made. Some of the best assets and features sit behind the Pro tier, and the free plan's watermarking of premium elements catches people out mid-project.
Our call. Buy Pro if you run a brand or a team; stay free if you are a solo blogger making featured images. Either way it is the right tool for this job.
Best for
Bloggers, creators, and small teams producing social graphics, featured images, and presentations without a designer.
Key takeaways
- 1The most generous free plan of any tool we review
- 2Templates pre-sized for every social platform
- 3Magic Resize reformats a design across all sizes in one click
- 4Brand Kit keeps team output consistent
- 5No editable export — files are locked to the platform
- 6Template ubiquity makes designs recognisable
Canva is the tool that removed design as a bottleneck for people who do not design. Its template library and drag-and-drop model mean a blogger can produce a full set of social graphics in the time it would take to open Photoshop, and the free plan is generous enough that many creators never pay. The ceiling is real, but it sits well above where most content work stops.

Frequently asked questions
Is Canva free forever?+
Yes. The free plan has no time limit and includes millions of templates, 5GB of storage, and real-time collaboration. You pay for Brand Kit, Magic Resize, background removal, and the premium asset library — not for basic design.
Can I use Canva designs commercially?+
Yes for your own commercial work, including client projects. What you cannot do is resell the templates or stock assets themselves as standalone products. Premium elements used on a free account are watermarked until you pay for them or upgrade.
Can I export an editable file from Canva?+
Not meaningfully. You can export PDFs, images, and video, but there is no editable file another design tool can open properly. If a designer will need to continue your work in Illustrator or Figma, that is an argument against starting in Canva.
What is Magic Resize?+
It reformats one design into every other size you need — Instagram post to Story to Pinterest pin to presentation slide — in a single action, adjusting layout as it goes. For anyone publishing across platforms it is the single biggest time-saver in the product, and it requires Pro.
Canva or Adobe Express?+
Canva if you are starting fresh: the library is bigger and it is easier to use. Adobe Express if you already pay for Creative Cloud, where it is effectively free and the fonts and stock are properly licensed professional libraries.
