Our verdict

Circle is the best-designed community platform, and the one members are most likely to keep opening.

Where it wins. The experience is the product: clean spaces, threaded discussion that stays readable, live rooms, events, and a mobile app that makes returning easy. Courses and community live together, so a cohort programme does not need two subscriptions. Paid memberships, tiers, and trials are native, and the branding is genuinely yours — members do not feel they are on someone else's platform. Integrations with email platforms and Zapier are solid.

Where it falls short. It is expensive, and the useful pieces — workflows, white-label apps, deeper analytics — sit on higher tiers that quickly reach serious monthly figures. There is a transaction fee on paid memberships unless you are on a top plan. Search across a large community is weaker than the volume of content warrants, and gamification is lighter than Skool's, which some communities rely on.

Our call. The strongest choice when the community is a premium product. Budget-conscious operators should compare Skool's flat pricing.

Best for

Creators and businesses running a premium paid community where member experience justifies the cost.

Key takeaways

  • 1Best member experience in the category
  • 2Courses, events, and discussion in one platform
  • 3Genuinely white-labelled — feels like your product
  • 4Native paid tiers, trials, and memberships
  • 5Expensive, with key features on higher tiers
  • 6Transaction fee on memberships below the top plan

Circle is what most creators picture when they imagine leaving Facebook Groups. Discussion spaces, courses, events, and paid access sit under your branding, the interface is genuinely pleasant, and members are yours rather than a platform's. It costs more than the alternatives and mostly earns it.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Is Circle worth the price?

If the community is a paid product, generally yes — member experience drives retention, and Circle's is the best available. For a free community, the cost is hard to justify.

Does Circle charge transaction fees?

Yes on lower plans, falling to zero on the top tier. If you run paid memberships, factor that percentage into which plan is actually cheapest.

Circle or Skool?

Circle for branding, events, and a polished member experience. Skool for flat pricing and stronger gamification. Circle looks like your product; Skool looks like Skool.
