Our verdict

Envato Elements is the best value in creative assets if you use more than a handful a month, and the licence terms deserve a careful read.

Where it wins. The breadth is the point: video templates, music, sound effects, fonts, mockups, and WordPress themes sit alongside photos, so one subscription covers a whole production pipeline. Unlimited downloads remove the calculation entirely. Quality on templates and motion graphics is particularly strong — better than the photo library, which is mid-tier. Registered use in client work is permitted, which matters for agencies.

Where it falls short. Licensing is the thing to understand: you register each item for a single end product, and if you cancel, previously registered uses remain covered but new ones do not — so an ongoing series needs an ongoing subscription. The photo library is weaker than Shutterstock for editorial-quality imagery. Search is mediocre given the catalogue size, and quality varies sharply between contributors.

Our call. The strongest subscription for video and design production. If you mainly need photographs, a photo-first library serves better.

Best for

Video editors, designers, and agencies who need assets across many formats every month.

Key takeaways

  • 1Unlimited downloads across photo, video, music, and templates
  • 2Motion and design templates are the strongest part of the catalogue
  • 3Client work permitted with per-item registration
  • 4Registered uses survive cancellation; new ones do not
  • 5Photo library is weaker than a photo-first competitor
  • 6Search quality lags the catalogue size

Envato Elements answers a specific question well: what does everything cost? One subscription, unlimited downloads, across photos, video, music, After Effects and Premiere templates, fonts, and WordPress themes. For anyone producing content across formats, the per-asset maths stops mattering.

Frequently asked questions

What does the licence actually allow?

Register each item to a single end product and it is covered commercially, including client work. Registered uses stay covered after you cancel; new uses do not, so an ongoing series needs an ongoing subscription.

Is it better than Shutterstock?

For breadth and value, clearly. For photography specifically, Shutterstock is better — Envato's strength is video templates, motion graphics, fonts, and mockups.

Can I use assets for client work?

Yes, with per-item registration to that client's project. Each new end product needs its own registration, which is the detail people most often miss.
