Fathom Analytics Dashboard Walk-through & Demo

Fathom is the right analytics tool for most content sites, and the consent-banner argument alone often justifies the subscription.
Where it wins. No cookies and no personal data means no consent banner in most jurisdictions, which removes both a compliance liability and the measurement gap that banners create. The entire dashboard is one page: traffic, sources, top pages, and goals visible at a glance, with none of GA4's learning curve. EU isolation routes European visitors through EU-owned infrastructure, which matters for organisations taking data transfer seriously. The script is tiny and does not slow the page. Bypassing ad blockers via a custom domain is supported and materially improves accuracy.
Where it falls short. It is deliberately shallow. There are no user-level journeys, no cohort analysis, no funnels of any sophistication, and no behavioural segmentation — if you need to answer detailed product questions, this is not the tool. It costs money where GA4 is free, and that is a hard sell to anyone who has not thought about the trade. Historical data does not migrate from Google, so you start fresh.
Our call. The best default for blogs and content sites. Keep GA4 running alongside it if you need deep segmentation, or add Hotjar for behaviour.
Best for
Bloggers and content sites that want accurate, simple traffic data without cookie banners or GA4's complexity.
Key takeaways
- 1Cookieless — no consent banner needed in most jurisdictions
- 2Often reports more complete data than consent-gated GA4
- 3Entire dashboard fits on one page
- 4EU data isolation for European visitors
- 5Deliberately shallow — no funnels, cohorts, or user journeys
- 6Paid, where GA4 is free, and no historical data migration
Fathom is what website analytics looks like when you remove the surveillance. It counts visitors without cookies or personal data, which means no consent banner is required in most jurisdictions — and because banners suppress a large share of measurement, a cookieless tool frequently reports more complete numbers than the "free" alternative does.

Frequently asked questions
Do I still need a cookie banner with Fathom?+
In most jurisdictions, no. Fathom sets no cookies and collects no personal data, which is precisely the trigger for consent requirements. Confirm against your own legal advice, but removing the banner is the main practical reason people switch.
Is Fathom more accurate than Google Analytics?+
Frequently, yes — because consent banners suppress a large share of GA4 measurement and ad blockers block it outright. A cookieless script that visitors never decline often records more complete traffic than the free alternative.
Can I import my Google Analytics history?+
No. You start fresh. Many people run both in parallel for a period before switching, which is the sensible way to compare the numbers and keep a historical record.
What can Fathom not do?+
Why pay when GA4 is free?+
For simplicity, privacy compliance, and more complete data. If GA4's interface is costing you hours and its consent banner is costing you measurement, a modest monthly fee is easy to justify — and if neither is true, stay on GA4.
