Our verdict

Surfshark is the best value in VPNs and one of the few whose privacy claims have been checked by someone other than its own marketing department.

Where it wins. Unlimited simultaneous devices is genuinely unusual and worth real money for households and small teams. The no-logs policy has been independently audited repeatedly, and the servers run RAM-only, so there is no persistent disk for data to survive on. Speeds on WireGuard are strong enough that video and large downloads are unaffected in most regions. It is registered in the Netherlands — inside the EU, outside the worst surveillance-sharing arrangements — and the apps are clean across every platform. Bundled extras like ad blocking and breach alerts are useful rather than filler.

Where it falls short. The advertised price requires a multi-year commitment and renewal is substantially higher, which is the standard trap in this category. Some bundled extras are upsells on higher plans rather than included. Speeds to distant regions vary more than the top-tier competitors, and occasional server instability shows up during peak hours.

Our call. The best VPN buy for most people, especially households. Budget for the renewal price, not the headline one.

Best for

Households and creators wanting audited privacy across unlimited devices without a per-device subscription.

Key takeaways

  • 1Unlimited simultaneous devices on one subscription
  • 2No-logs policy independently audited more than once
  • 3RAM-only servers leave no persistent data
  • 4Netherlands jurisdiction, inside the EU
  • 5Headline price requires a multi-year commitment; renewal is much higher
  • 6Distant-region speeds vary more than top-tier rivals

Surfshark's defining feature is that one subscription covers every device you own, with no connection limit — which for a household or a creator running phones, laptops, and a TV stick changes the maths against per-device competitors. Its no-logs claim has been independently audited more than once, which is the only kind of privacy promise worth anything.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Does Surfshark really allow unlimited devices?

Yes, unlimited simultaneous connections on one subscription — genuinely unusual, and the main reason it suits households and small teams better than per-device competitors.

Has the no-logs policy been audited?

Yes, independently and more than once, and the servers run RAM-only so there is no persistent disk for data to survive on. That combination is what makes the claim credible.

What will it cost after the first term?

Substantially more than the headline rate, which requires a multi-year commitment. Work out the renewal price before subscribing — it is the number you will pay long term.

Does a VPN make me anonymous?

No. It hides traffic from your ISP and network operator and moves that trust to the VPN provider. It does nothing about tracking while you are logged into accounts.
