Our verdict

v0 is the best tool for generating production-shaped UI components, and it is a component generator rather than an app builder.

Where it wins. Output quality is the differentiator: idiomatic React with Tailwind and shadcn/ui, properly structured and accessible enough to keep, rather than the tangled markup most generators produce. Screenshot-to-code works genuinely well for reproducing a design. Because it targets conventions a lot of teams already use, pasting into an existing Next.js project rarely fights the codebase. Iteration is fast and versioned, and deployment to Vercel is immediate.

Where it falls short. It is scoped to interfaces — no database, no auth, no backend, so an actual application still needs building around it. It presumes React, Tailwind, and shadcn; teams on Vue, Svelte, or plain CSS get much less. Credits meter generation, and complex multi-screen flows need to be prompted piece by piece. Design output tends toward a recognisable shadcn look unless you push it.

Our call. Excellent for developers who want components fast. For a whole application, Lovable or Bolt.new.

Best for

React developers who want production-quality UI components generated from prompts or screenshots.

Key takeaways

  • 1Idiomatic React, Tailwind, and shadcn/ui output
  • 2Screenshot-to-code reproduces designs well
  • 3Pastes cleanly into existing Next.js projects
  • 4Interfaces only — no database, auth, or backend
  • 5Assumes React and Tailwind; little value on other stacks
  • 6Output trends toward a recognisable shadcn look

v0 is narrower than the app builders and better at what it does: turning a description or a screenshot into clean React and Tailwind you can paste into an existing codebase. Because it comes from Vercel, the output follows Next.js and shadcn/ui conventions that a large share of modern front-end work already uses.

What we like

  • Highest-quality generated UI code
  • Strong image-to-code
  • Fits modern React conventions
  • Fast versioned iteration

Worth noting

  • Front-end scope only
  • Stack-specific
  • Credit-metered
  • Generic default aesthetic

Frequently asked questions

What does v0 actually produce?

React components using Tailwind and shadcn/ui — code you copy into an existing project. It is a component generator, not an app builder: no database, no auth, no backend.

Does v0 work with Vue or Svelte?

Not meaningfully. It targets React, Tailwind, and shadcn conventions. Teams on other stacks get much less value.

Can it build from a screenshot?

Yes, and it works well. Image-to-code is one of its strongest features for reproducing an existing design as working components.
