Where it wins. Feature depth is the differentiator among privacy tools: segments, custom reports, funnels, cohorts, e-commerce tracking, plus heatmaps and session recording as built-in plugins. Self-hosting means the data never leaves your infrastructure, which satisfies public-sector and healthcare requirements that rule out every hosted option. It can be configured to run without cookies and without consent in several jurisdictions, and it will import historical Google Analytics data — the only tool here that does.
Where it falls short. Self-hosting is genuine work: a server, a database that grows quickly, and upgrades you own. The interface carries a decade of accumulated features and is markedly less pleasant than Plausible or Fathom. Several capabilities are paid plugins on top, so the "free" version is not the whole product. Cloud pricing rises steeply with hits.
